How Our Systems Work

The Hydro System is a powerful therapeutic tool for all horses combining a treadmill, whirlpool and swimming pool. Unlike traditional water therapy methods, a Hydro System allows the horse to exercise in a controlled environment, using its normal gait and the same muscles as in use while exercising on the track without undue stress or trauma and reducing concussion.

How a Hydro System Helps Injuries

This system may be used for treating injuries such as bowed tendons, pulled suspensor ligaments, bucked shims and saucer fractures, quarter cracks or foot problems, as well as rehabilitation after injury or surgery. The horse receives the benefits of a full cardiovascular training which will reduce the risk of bleeding while racing. Bones become denser and more compact reducing the tendency for the peritoneum of the cannon bones to become inflamed. Consistent training on the submerged treadmill adds significant tone and condition to the back and stifle muscles and would make 'typing up' during the early stages of training less apt to occur.

How It Helps Condition

Early Conditioning on the treadmill system helps tendons, ligaments and joint capsules to tighten and increase in tensile strength and thus prepares a horse for the heavier training required to prepare the animal for the race track or equestrian shows. The hydrotherapy involves a massaging action which is smoother and more consistent than hand massaging. The horses love the relaxing and invigoration form of training. The buoyancy of the water displaces approximately 40% - 50% of the body weight while contact with the treadmill and thrust of working against the water still affords sufficient concussion to promote bone density and encourage muscle development.
